Candidate Information
Eligible candidates for municipal elections must be:
A person is qualified to be elected or hold office, who, as of the day he or she files his or her nomination is:
- Entitled to be an elector under the Municipal Elections Act, s.17
- Is a Canadian citizen;
- Is at least 18 years of age;
- Resides in the local municipality, or is the owner or tenant of land in the local municipality, or the spouse of such a person; and
- Is not prohibited from voting as noted otherwise by law.
- Not disqualified for violation of financial requirements or violations of requirements for filing financial information.
- Not disqualified by any Act from holding such office
- Not disqualified under the provisions as outlined in MEA, s 90(2) and 91(1)
- May 1, 2026: First day candidates can file nomination papers and first day third party advertisers can register.
- August 21, 2026: Last day candidates can file nomination papers, by 2:00 pm
- October 23, 2026: Last day third party advertisers can register.
- October 26, 2026: Voting Day
- November 15, 2026: New term of Council commences

As of January 15, 2024, Elections Ontario has taken over responsibility of voters’ lists for Municipal and School Board Elections in Ontario.
Visit RegisterToVoteON.ca to confirm, add or update your voter information on the register for the next Municipal and School Board Election which will take place in October 2026.
Voters wishing to be added to the voters' list or update their information will be required to provide a piece of identification with both their name and Ontario home address.
