Freedom of Information Requests
Many of the Township of Frontenac Islands records are available without making a formal Freedom of Information request. Please search our website or contact the Township to determine whether or not a formal request is necessary.
If a formal request is necessary, you must submit your request in writing to the Clerk.
The Township does not process requests for information for records held by other institutions. Institutions that process their own formal requests for information, include: Ontario Provincial Police, Ontario Fire Marshal.
Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA)
The purposes of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) are to provide a right of access to information under the control of municipalities in accordance with the principles that
- information should be available to the public
- necessary exemptions from the right of access should be limited and specific
- decisions on the disclosure of information should be reviewed independently of the municipality
- the privacy of individuals with respect to personal information about themselves held by municipalities should be protected
Application Fee
There is a $5 application fee for Freedom of Information Requests.
You can submit payment:
- By Mail by sending a cheque/money order payable to Township of Frontenac Islands for $5.00. Mailing address is: Township of Frontenac Islands, c/o Clerk, 1191 Road 96, Wolfe Island, ON K0H 2Y0.
- In person - at the Howe or Wolfe Municipal Offices
What Happens Next
The Municipality must provide the requester with the information and/or a decision regarding their request within 30 calendar days from the date a complete request is received. Once the records are ready and all fees have been paid, the records will be either mailed, emailed or they can be picked up at the Township Municipal Office.
Appeals
MFIPPA allows requestor to appeal decisions made by the municipality. For more information, please visit the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario's website.
