Acquisition of Horne’s Ferry Dock
Township of Frontenac Islands Moves Forward with Acquisition of Horne’s Ferry Dock. The Township of Frontenac Islands is pleased to announce that Council has agreed to acquire the Horne’s Ferry Dock property on Wolfe Island. This decision follows Council’s review of the matter in closed session under Section 239(2)(c) of the Municipal Act, 2001, which permits confidential discussion regarding proposed or pending land acquisitions.
The Horne’s Ferry Dock has long served as a key waterfront asset for the community. Securing the property will support the Township’s objectives, including protecting public access to waterfront infrastructure, enhancing transportation and tourism opportunities, and strengthening long-term community and economic development.
The acquisition of the Horne’s Ferry Dock has now been finalized, with all required due diligence, including legal review, and site evaluations successfully completed.
“While there are currently no confirmed plans for any private operator to resume ferry service to Cape Vincent, NY, the loss of the Wolfe Island wharf would have significantly reduced the possibility of any future operator re-establishing the seasonal route,” said Mayor Judy Greenwood-Speers.
