Howe Island County operated ferry docks rehabilitation project - Update
The County of Frontenac received an update and clarification today about projected ferry service interruptions related to the Howe Island County ferry docks rehabilitation project.
By way of reminders:
- This work involves the rehabilitation of the ferry docks at both the island and mainland sides.
- Construction is scheduled to be completed by April 30, 2026.
- A mainland detour route is provided and delineated by detour signage.
- The Township three-car ferry will remain in extended operation during closures to ensure passage on and off the island.
- The island-side parking area is closed for the duration of the project to ensure the dry hydrant, boat launch, and private laneways remain unobstructed by construction activities and equipment.
The planned ferry service interruptions are:
8-hour nighttime closures:
- February 12, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, February 13, 2026
- February 16, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, February 17, 2026
- February 17, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, February 18, 2026
- February 18, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, February 19, 2026
- February 19, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, February 20, 2026
- February 22, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, February 23, 2026
- February 23, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, February 24, 2026
- February 24, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, February 25, 2026
- February 25, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, February 26, 2026
- February 26, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, February 27, 2026
64-hour full closures:
- March 2, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 2:00 PM, March 5, 2026
- March 9, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 2:00 PM, March 12, 2026
- April 6, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 2:00 PM, April 9, 2026
- April 13, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 2:00 PM, April 16, 2026
By way of clarification, the contractor has set aside 64 hours for each full closure to include time to adapt to weather events or other unforeseen circumstances. If work concludes early, service will resume early.
