Significant Weather Event Declaration
Issued: December 28, 2025
The Township of Frontenac Islands is declaring a Significant Weather Event in accordance with Ontario Regulation 239/02 under the Municipal Act, 2001 due to forecasted freezing rain expected to impact the Township beginning Sunday, December 28, 2025, and continuing through Monday, December 29, 2025.
Weather forecasts indicate the potential for freezing rain, icy road conditions, reduced visibility, and hazardous travel conditions throughout the Township, including Wolfe Island and Howe Island.
This declaration suspends the standard timelines required for the Township to meet their winter maintenance standards.
Please note that our Public Works crews will continue to prioritize residents’ safety, but that it may take longer than usual to maintain Township roadways and sidewalks.
Residents are advised to:
- Avoid unnecessary travel during the event if possible;
- Exercise caution when travelling or walking outdoors;
- Allow extra time for road maintenance operations;
- Monitor weather forecasts and Township communications for updates.
Municipal staff will continue to monitor conditions and respond as resources and safety permit. The Significant Weather Event will remain in effect until conditions improve and the Township determines it is appropriate to lift the declaration.
Further updates will be provided as required.
