TC consultation on Lasalle Causeway
Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) has notified the public of a proposed schedule for removals of LaSalle Causeway’s temporary modular bridge. These removals will allow seasonal navigation through the main channel into the Rideau Canal for taller vessels. The proposed schedule is available on PSPC’s LaSalle Causeway web page.
Proposed Opening Schedule:
- Mid-April to May: Biweekly openings.
- June to August: Weekly openings (consistent with last year’s schedule, all openings are on Sundays, with an additional opening on July 1 for Canada Day).
- September to mid-November: Biweekly openings (including an additional opening on October 13).
During these scheduled openings, the modular bridge will be temporarily removed in the morning and reinstalled later the same day to accommodate marine traffic during daylight hours.
The proposed schedule, which covers two navigation seasons (2026 and 2027), is subject to Transport Canada’s Navigation Protection Program approval under the Canadian Navigable Waters Act. As part of the approval process, Transport Canada is inviting public feedback during a 30-day comment period. Please note that the schedule may change. The comment window is currently slated to close on January 3, 2026. In the event that you would like to provide your views on this proposal to Transport Canada, the public consultation process can be accessed as follows:
